The Ventura County Fusion takes on Marin Legends Sunday at 10:30 am at California Lutheran University’s William Rolland Stadium. The Fusion is coming off a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Southwest Division-leading San Francisco Glens and looks to get back in the win column against Marin Legends.

With a record of 2-1-2, the Fusion occupies fourth place in the division, five points behind the Glens. The Fusion, however, have a game in hand, and a win this weekend would potentially move them up the table. To do that, however, the team will need to find a way to score goals. While it scored four times in its first two games, Fusion has scored only two goals in its last three games. For head coach Mike Elias, it’s a matter of finishing.

“We did score early on and then it kind of dried up,” said Elias. “I think it’s (the goal drought) a case of working hard in practice, working different scenarios, and getting our confidence up from our strikers and our attacking midfield players to finish the ball. I’ve been pretty happy with the way we’re creating chances, so that’s not an issue. It’s just finishing the chances we are creating. Soccer is a game of moments, and you have to finish chances when you create them. We’re working a little harder on that in training.” Center forward Logan Farrington has been a consistent threat this season and leads the team with three goals scored. Farrington converted on a penalty against the Glens to give the Fusion its lone goal for the game.

Marin Legends is competing in its first season in USL League Two. Based in Greenbrae, CA just outside of San Rafael, the team features a mix of local talent club alums and youth players. With three points in only two games played, Marin Legends occupies eighth place in the division. Notably, it pulled off a 2-1 victory on the road against the Glens. The team’s most recent game, against FC Golden State Force, was postponed. Prior to playing the Fusion, Marin Legends will visit the SoCal Seahorses on Friday, June 17 at Whittier College.

“I don’t think there’s an easy game in this league this year,” said Elias. “There’s no clear runners at the moment. There are a number of teams that could be top of the league. We had two games in hand from the top team, and if we win those two games in hand, we’ll be top as well. It’s very tight this year. Very competitive. It’s one of those years.”

Fusion will welcome back team captain and central defender Giovanni Calderon who missed the last game due to international duty with Puerto Rico.
